How lovely is your dwelling place,
O Lord Almighty.
My soul yearns, even faints,
For the courts of the Lord.
My heart and my flesh
cry out for the living God
Even the sparrow has found a home,
And the swallow a nest for herself,
Where she may have her young,
A place near your altar.
O Lord, my King and my God!
Blessed are those who dwell in your house,
They are ever praising you.
Blessed are those whose strength is in you,
Who have set their hearts on pilgrimage.
When they pass through the Valley of Baca,
they make it a place of springs.
The autumn rains also cover it with pools.
They go from strength to strength,
Till each appears before God in Zion.
Hear my prayer, Lord God Almighty!
Listen to me, O God of Jacob!
Look upon our shield, O Lord!
Look with favour upon your anointed one.
Better is one day in your courts,
than a thousand elsewhere.
I would rather be a doorkeeper in the house of the Lord,
than dwell in the house of the wicked.
The Lord is a sun and shield.
The Lord bestows favor and honor.
No good thing does He withhold,
From those whose walk is blameless.
O Lord Almighty!
Blessed is the man who has put his trust in you.
I wrote this out from memory, as I attempt to memorise Psalm 84.
Not word perfect, but I am getting closer...:)
Through this process, I begin to appreciate the wisdom and heart of SP.
It is indeed a different experience to work hard in committing key scripture passages to memory. As I repeat the phrases to myself again and again, it made me meditate on them more than before. And as I reflect on them, I realised that if I can trully identify with the psalmist's intense desire for the presence of God....then surely I will be so much closer to entering into the rest of God.
And guess what? Memorising scripture was not quite the chore I thought it would be. It was actually quite fun. :)
